Because here, we’re family.

The Cayman Islands has undertaken some of the most stringent measures globally in implementing COVID-19 safety regulations, which has led to a near COVID-free status and positioned the country as a global leader in successfully managing the virus.

Prioritising safety of residents has not come without sacrifices. Morritt’s, along with the rest of the Cayman Islands hospitality and tourism industry, had to pause operations as soon as local COVID-19 restrictions came into place in March 2020.

The restrictions closed Cayman’s borders to visitors and had residents sheltering in place. Many local businesses, particularly in our industry, had to make extremely difficult decisions with regard to their staff and operations. As a result of lay-offs and closures, emergency repatriation flights were organised by the Cayman Islands government to assist expats who needed to return to their home countries.

Owner, David Morritt, was adamant that we remain true to our family values and do everything possible to retain all staff throughout this period of uncertainty. We are delighted and fortunate to report that Morritt’s kept each member of staff employed and compensated during the temporary several-month closure of the resort necessitated by the local COVID-19 restrictions.

We are proud of the fact that the familiar faces and sense of community that we’ve developed here with our owners and staff will now continue for years to come. With many of our staff having been with us for decades and being like family, it was our top priority to ensure that their needs were met during this time and that our owners can reunite with them once borders reopen.

Happily, local restrictions were eased in June and we were able to reopen our doors to Cayman residents. We have enjoyed offering them the same Morritt’s hospitality that has kept many of our overseas guests coming back to see us over the years.

Cayman’s borders remain closed to visitors for now, but when they reopen we’ll all be waiting to greet you with a warm smile and an ice-cold Mudslide! In the meantime, join us in welcoming a number of new owners to our family as many of our local residents are now ‘sharing the experience’ with their purchase of weeks at the resort.

Until next time!
