Top Unique Things to Do in Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is a special place with unique and unusual attractions. Where else can you drink with pirates, swim with mermaids, and send a postcard from Hell?

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite unique island activities. Are there any we missed that should be on this list?

BEST UNIQUE EVENT: Pirates Week

a parade float in Grand Cayman, filled with people dressed as pirates

What you can expect: The world’s best pirate party

It’s not every day you see pirates partying in the streets, but here in Cayman it is guaranteed every November. During Pirates Week, all three islands are transformed into a mass of colour and revelry. In Grand Cayman the festivities kick off with a dazzling fireworks show. Perhaps the most famous of the festivities however is a mock pirate take-over of George Town, followed by lively parades and street dances.

BEST UNIQUE EATSTukka

What you can expect: A culinary walk on the wild side

If you’re feeling daring and want to try some more exotic flavours, Tukka is your place. Serving up Australian cuisine with a Cayman twist, their menu items include green iguana, lion fish, crocodile and kangaroo! Plot twist – they all taste like chicken.

BEST UNIQUE ANIMAL ENCOUNTER: Stingray City

What you can expect: Not your average city experience

No trip to Cayman would be complete without visiting Stingray City! Wild Southern Stingrays are plentiful in this area of the North Sound, where you can easily stand thanks to a natural sandbar. Tour boats depart daily to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to interact with these gentle creatures – and legend has it that a kiss on one of their noses will bring you seven years of good luck!

TOP UNIQUE UNDERWATER ATTRACTION: The Mermaid

a mermaid statue submerged underwater on a tropical reef in Grand Cayman

What you can expect: The perfect selfie backdrop

Like something straight out of a fairytale, this 9-foot tall underwater mermaid statue is a must-see. Her official name is Amphitrite, Siren of Sunset Reef and she is simply stunning. Amphitrite is a popular attraction for divers & snorkellers, and she can easily be accessed from Sunset House

TOP UNIQUE GEOLOGICAL SITE: Hell

a rock formation of black and jagged limestone in Grand Cayman

What you can expect: You’re going to hell…literally.

Yes, you read that right! Named for its eerie and desolate looking landscape, Hell is a unique natural wonder. The jagged limestone formations are a result of millions of years of geological evolution, thanks to acid rain and carbonate deterioration. There is even a post office here, so once you’ve finished catching up with Satan, you can send a postcard to tell your friends and family all about it!

TOP UNIQUE SHOPPING SPREE: Pure Art

Pure Art, a small cottage-style art shop in Grand Cayman

What you can expect: The most magical gift and art shop

Stepping into Pure Art is like stepping into Aladdin’s cave. A true treasure trove, every nook and cranny is packed with something delightful and precious. This place has it all – from paintings, jewellery, jams, spices, housewares, toys, and much, much more. Great for presents or just to treat yourself because, well, you deserve it!

Things to See and Do Around Morritt’s

The eastern districts of Grand Cayman are the least populated on the island, however they are full of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Here’s a selection of the attractions that are just a short drive away from Morritt’s.

Cayman Parrot

Cayman Parrot Sanctuary

Located just before Tukka restaurant on Austin Connolly Drive, the Cayman Parrot Sanctuary is one of the island’s newest attractions but it is already growing in popularity. As the name implies, the facility is a place where injured Cayman parrots (the Islands’ national bird) can be rehabilitated with the ultimate goal of being released back into the wild. The sanctuary offers a fun, interactive and educational experience where families of all ages can see, hold and feed a variety of Cayman’s native animals.

Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park

The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park showcases the best of Cayman’s natural beauty, where guests can enjoy guided or self-guided tours through colourful gardens, botanic, lake and nature displays. You might even see an endangered blue iguana or two, which roam freely throughout the park. They are found nowhere else in the world — only in the Cayman Islands!

Mastic Trail

If you’re feeling especially adventurous, grab your hiking shoes and water bottle for a 2.3-mile hike through the Mastic Trail to see some of the last remaining untouched old-growth forests of the Caribbean as well as several species of birdsreptiles and insects that live within the reserve. Guided tours are also available.

Note that Rum Point is currently closed but is expected to re-open. Check their social media for updates.

Starfish Point

A short walk from Kaibo on Water Cay Road, Starfish Point is a popular destination for these special creatures to naturally congregate in the shallow waters. Just be sure to not remove any from the water when you pay them a visit!
